It’s housing fair day! Despite the long day ahead, I spend half an hour with the elder drinking coffee and talking current events. Then a shower and prepare for the day. A simple outfit: summer dolman sweater, whitewash boyfriend jeans and my red toe ring sandals. I spend six hours volunteering for the housing fair with good friends from my past work life. I start my shift ushering but end the day signing up constituents for counseling. The day goes by quick. Lunch was a chicken wrap and a can of Pepsi, compliments of the hosting organization. Honestly, I love attending these. After 19 years in the public housing industry, I feel like a rock star walking through those doors. I am a converted extrovert when I show up and I feel so fulfilled helping folks. I start random conversations with multiple people before wrapping up for the day. I am tired from being on my feet all day but when I get home I put away all the laundry I’d left folded on the bed, brush the cat, change his water and s...

June 20, 2025

I called out of work today. Originally, I thought I’d have the strength to come back to work after the Juneteenth holiday but it was cold and windy out. I woke back up at 8:30a and got ready. I’d already washed my hair the night before but I needed some extra humph in my hair so I used my air brush. I absolutely love that thing. I just wished it had a cold setting. First up, gas. A full tank costs me $42.19. Anyway, I hit up TJ Maxx with the Nordstrom Rack right next door to return the red Camper sandals I love so much but don’t fit. NR was still closed so I shopped in TJ Maxx for half an hour. I picked up some facial lotion made in Japan for $7.99, a huge bottle of eucalyptus scented Castile soap on clearance for $5.50, a pair Calvin Klein wide leg light weight denim pants for $24.99 and a leopard print face washing set with thick head band and arm bands on clearance for $6. Total = $48.87 At 10a, I made my way to NR. I went upstairs to the shoes department and shopped for an hour and...

My first day back in the office after a migraine-filled sick day on Monday. I resisted the urge to buy an overpriced bottle of diabetes especially since I had brown bagged a tomato-based penne pasta for lunch.  After work, we passed by Food Co where I picked up a 24-pack of flour tortillas, a 5-pound bag of potatoes and a bag of Hershey’s kisses. $16.27. I continued the latest audiobook at work on my Libby app. Great addition if you’re eligible to use it. I’m halfway through and much of the content resonates with the current state of my life.  I worked a bit in the garden. I swept up fallen leaves and dried flowers. I started a small and manageable compost pile with veg peels, mixed paper, dried leaves and water. I covered the top with a heavy metal round car part that’s rusted hoping to keep critters out.  A homemade meal, some quality time with the cat and a few pimple patches for the bump that has formed on my chin. Oh and a great basketball game. Just a simple night b...

Saturday Orders

Image
I opted to receive orders on weekends only just so I’m home and can retrieve the packages before they are stolen. Not that it’s happened before although my order of Korean collagen sticks had gotten delivered to the wrong address. Today, I received a bulk order of Earl Grey tea. A household staple; ordering it this way I’ve found provides the most savings. $.14 cents per tea bag as opposed to buying from Target or Safeway plus I avoid crowds, fighting over parking and using gas. $17.04 Also ordered a few makeup replacements. A new-to-me concealer, an eyebrow mascara, an eyebrow pencil (a must-have) and a pressed powder compact that I got for $.14 cents after gift certificates and rewards. $.14 I took the concealer and powder for a test run using just my fingers to apply and the thin foam sponge from the compact. I wanted to try this lash serum + liner in Blackest Black since the eyeliner I currently have and used but stopped smears. Also part of the Color Stay line so I’m interested to...

There was an earthquake this morning. It happened while I was getting ready for work. I wore my usual Friday garb. Dark denim bootcut jeans, black linen t-shirt and my loafers. I love my loafers. They have just enough heel to be dressy but still comfortable. I have to admit, they were expensive. I procrastinated buying them and stalked the Rothy’s website constantly for sales and deals but they are worth every penny. They make my wardrobe look professional even if I’m just wearing jeans or a t-shirt. They feel better and look better compared to wearing ballet flats. I think I might follow up with another pair but the pointy toe heeled style. Monday, this week I bought a few gifts for my niece. She and I share a love for needlework so I ordered a neck light, a jar of 500 stitch markers and a portable yarn holder so she could crochet or knit on-the-go. $31.01 I want to use some scrap leather that I purchased from the reuse store years ago so I ordered a leather work kit complete with nee...

Wednesday. Traffic is getting worse. Citizens are getting back in their groove.  Today I got dropped off.  So, I got some needlework done on the drive. The workplace is starting to show its ugliness.  I don't like it. I have worked in toxic environments, and it has left me on the defensive.  I definitely keep my guard up.  I no longer overshare. I do not talk about colleagues with coworkers.  I keep my opinions to myself, and I observe.  I am starting to not like what I see.  It is sad, though. I work with very dedicated people.  They have such wonderful personalities, and they are resilient af.  Breakfast was free office coffee and a snack pack of Knotts Berry Farm shortbread cookies.  Today another colleague celebrated their birthday and they bought pizza for the office. I joined to sing and took a slice of plain cheese back to my desk to work.  Before lunch, I met with two regular clients.  One client left the office sm...

Today was a departure from yesterday. I left earlier this morning and when I saw my neighbor walk to his car with his coffee in hand, I remembered my water bottle. Little blessings. Work was work, as usual.  I did get a lot more done today. I have been experimenting with time blocking.  I've refused entertaining walk-ins and instead encouraging appointment requests.  So far, my time efficiency seems to be paying off.  I've been using my earbuds often to block out unnecessary distractions during deep work sessions, listening to YT videos on finance and entrepreneurship.  Today, was Mel Robbins' podcast 5 Rules of Money: How to Make It, Save It, & Be Smarter About It featuring Tiffany Aliche. It's 10 months old but still relevant. I crochet a few rows during my first 15-minute break.  I have my redeemed chicken and potato stew with multi-grain rice for lunch. I did pack a Clementine Izze but today I needed an extra dose of caffeine. The vending machine pi...
